The other day I ordered the new Mandate album from the
Fierce Shop online. The Mandate is an annual men's conference held in Belfast and in the past the worship music albums released from this conference have featured
Robin Mark singing on them.
This CD is a double album with Stuart Townend leading the singing on CD1 and a mixture of songs from the past 10 years of Mandate on the second.
The first CD is called O Church Arise. This is the name of a great new song from Stuart Townend and Keith Getty, much in the vein of In Christ Alone. It also has a number of other new songs by Stuart Townend and a mixture of old and new songs by other writers. I particularly like And Can It Be, O Church Arise and Be Lifted Up (which is a song by Paul Oakley).
CD2 is entitled Hymns and has 10 hymns from different years of Mandate. I love the Amazing Grace medley which is about 8 minutes long and How Great Thou Art (which only includes the verses specifcally about Christ - almost made me cry!) but really it is all excellent.
One disappointing thing about it was that I felt it was lacking female voices (I know it was a men's conference but I'm talking about the quality of the singing here). Never mind! Still rousing songs that remind you of great truths about our great God.
And when I think that God, His Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin:
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee:
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul! my Saviour God, to Thee:
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim, my God, how great Thou art!
